Program Overview

 

  1. Appreciate the difficulties of the menopause experience of women
  2. Understand the elements of risk assessment in a clinic setting
  3. Develop a collaborative approach to supporting a patient’s treatment plan
  4. Discuss the current thoughts on the findings from the Women’s Health Initiative studies and implications in practice
  5. Summarize relevant guidelines for menopausal hormone therapy, focusing on recommendations for benefits and risks
  6. Counsel patients on benefits and risks of menopausal hormone therapy to compliment the doctor’s assessment.

Speakers

Ardelle Piper,

B.Sc, M.Ed, M.D., FRCSC, NCMP

Dr. Ardelle Piper achieved her medical degree at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 2006, and OB/Gyne residency and M.ED at University of Saskatchewan. She pursued menopause sub-specialty training at The Shirley E. Greenberg Women’s Health Center in Ottawa 2014. She continues to practice in Ottawa and maintains NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner status.

Nese Yuksel,

BScPharm, PharmD, FCSHP, NCMP

Nese Yuksel is currently a full Professor with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Alberta. Additionally, she holds a cross-appointment with Alberta Health Services and practices in the Menopause Clinics at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and the Multidisciplinary Bone Health Clinic at the University of Alberta Hospital.
